Starfield trailer offers our biggest insight yet into its world and story
Bethesda has released a new trailer for its upcoming space RPG Starfield. While it’s short, the trailer does introduce a significant amount of info.
While our previous looks at the game have mostly centered on cryptic teases or profiles of individual planets, this latest clip lays out the state of the world in a fairly direct way.
In Starfield, the year is 2330. About 20 years prior to the events of the game, humanity’s two major factions, the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, fought a conflict called the Colony War. Those two faction have since reached an “uneasy peace.” You’ll enter into this world as one of the newest members of Constellation, an organization dedicated to exploring the edges of charted space.
The action of Starfield will take place in a small chunk of the Milky Way, spanning a region from our solar system to the so-called “Settled Systems” 50 lightyears away.
So far, we haven’t seen any indication that sentient alien races will play a major role in the story, but there will be groups of humans that players will need to watch out for, including “Ecliptic mercenaries, pirates of the Crimson Fleet, violent Spacers, [and] even the fanatical religious zealots of House Va’ruun.”
As in other recent trailers, we don’t get to see any in-game footage, but we do get plenty of enticing concept art. You can see it all for yourself below.
There’s still a lot to learn about Starfield, but if Bethesda continues to drip feed details like this, we’ll no doubt know a lot more in the coming months.
Starfield releases November 11th, 2022, on Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC.
