Halo: Master Chief Collection update adds FloodFight, crossplay co-op
Halo: The Master Chief Collection has received an update that adds the Flood to Firefight in Halo 3: ODST and campaign crossplay for both Halo 3 and ODST.
Starting with what developer 343 Industries calls “FloodFight,” the Flood will see some upgrades over its Halo 3 version. In ODST, the Flood can occupy vehicles, including using support weapons like turrets. The Flood’s arrival will also trigger a creepy fog that dissipates after the next wave of normal enemies comes in.
The Flood has a few more tricks up its sleeve. It can infect regular ODST, Elite Majors, and civilians. The Flood can also possess downed players and bring them back as enemies.
The update also adds crossplay co-op between PC and Xbox to the Halo 3 and ODST campaigns. 343 noted that “while this feature has been tested internally, the team requires additional insight from real players with different networking setups.”
That’s not all. The update introduces new campaign customization for Halo 4, more Forge modding tools for Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 2: Anniversary, and UI improvements. You can read the full patch notes on Halo Waypoint.
The other Halo, Infinite, is about to release a new update when Season 2 starts on May 3rd. These will include live service changes, a couple new maps, and a new mode.
