Ellie is not messing around in The Last of Us Part II’s launch trailer
Ahead of its big next-gen event tomorrow, PlayStation has released The Last of Us Part II‘s official launch trailer, and Ellie is not messing around in it.
While the trailer is brief, and most of the footage is stuff we’ve seen in previous trailers, this one highlights a couple of things: The game looks amazing, and Ashley Johnson has given yet another outstanding performance as an emotionally distraught and vengeful Ellie. “I’m going to find and I’m going to kill every last one of them.” Hey, that’s an interesting and probably thematically relevant contrast to the title of the series!
The Last of Us Part II is shaping up to be an appropriate swan song (or, at least, one of the swan songs) for the PlayStation 4, as the game certainly seems to be pushing the console to its utmost limit. The sequel is poised to be even bigger than the original, with certain sections of the game being so open that players might completely miss entire combat encounters and fully scripted sequences.
Even though the second game hasn’t come out yet, director Neil Druckmann has already floated the possibility of a third game in the series. On top of that, Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin are adapting the series for HBO, so this The Last of Us isn’t the last Last of Us for us.
The Last of Us Part II launches on June 19th for PlayStation 4.
