Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer leaks ahead of official reveal
Multiplayer footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has leaked ahead of its scheduled September 9th reveal.
It’s unclear exactly where the footage originated, but it was initially posted to Twitch before Activision quickly had it taken down. Of course, it didn’t stay taken down all that long, as it now resides on Reddit (via Eurogamer).
The footage shows a section of what appears to be a new game mode called VIP, where two teams of six must protect their VIP until a timer runs out and extraction points become available. One team wins by either extracting their VIP or killing the opposing team’s VIP. It appears to feature a “down but not out” mechanic similar to Cyber Attack where players can be revived, and players only have one life per round.
As far as the actual gameplay is concerned, the map in the footage is set in Miami at night. Tactical sprint doesn’t appear to be in the game, and doors are also missing. The ability to mount weapons on doors and ledges was also not shown, though it’s possible the players featured in the footage weren’t taking advantage of that mechanic. There are also health bars above the enemies’ heads.
The opening of the match shows five custom loadouts, as well as five pre-made classes: Stealth Ops, Pointman, Grenadier, Fire Support, and Double Agent. Loadouts include perks, wildcards, and a field upgrade. Scorestreaks are also back, and a message at the bottom of the loading screen notes that scorestreak kills count towards the next scorestreak. Guns seemed to have five attachment slots, similar to Modern Warfare‘s Gunsmith.
That’s about all we can tell from the leaked footage, though it gives us a pretty good idea of what we can expect on September 9th. All told, it definitely looks like a Call of Duty game.
Activision previously revealed Black Ops Cold War‘s story trailer, which featured a meticulously modeled Ronald Reagan. We also know that the game will bring back Zombies, but it’s unclear if that’s going to be further detailed on September 9th.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is launching on November 13th for at least Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions also in the works.
