Midnight Suns is 2K’s long-rumored Marvel tactics game
Originally leaked in advance of E3, the much anticipated Marvel tactics game from publisher 2K and XCOM developer Firaxis made its big debut during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live Stream. Called Midnight Suns, it’s due out in March.
The debut trailer doesn’t showcase any actual tactics gameplay, but it does show many of the heroes you’ll be able to control and sets up the basic contours of the story. Familiar faces include Wolverine, Iron Man, Blade, and Ghost Rider, but the focus of the story is a brand new hero, created by Firaxis in conjunction with Marvel, called The Hunter.
You’ll be able to create your own version of The Hunter within the game. Story-wise, she appears to have been dead for some time, and the Marvel heroes resurrect her in an attempt to stop her mother—and the game’s big bad—Lilith.
Basically, the focus here appears to be heavily on the supernatural, demons-and-hell-and-brimstone side of the Marvel universe, which hasn’t gotten a ton of emphasis in the MCU. It should make for a nice change of pace.
Firaxis will debut gameplay on September 1st, so look forward to learning more next week.
Midnight Suns will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
