Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s new Outbreak mode detailed
Activision and Treyarch have shared the first details about Outbreak, an all-new Zombies experience coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in Season 2.
This new objective-based mode sees up to four players fighting across multiple large-scale regions in the Ural Mountains of Russia. Players will be dropped into an area with their custom starting weapon and must work their way to the objective marked on the map.
“Unlike any other Zombies experience thus far, there are no set paths to and from the objective. Agents can take as much time as they wish to explore the area, searching for rewards either in loot chests, encountering various random events, or activating a Trial Computer,” publisher Activision added in a blog post. “For a small cost of 500 Essence, Requiem agents can also take jump pads found in the region that launch them high into the air, allowing them to reach objectives safely and, if they are skilled enough, parachute to collect essence containers during the descent that can cover the cost of their flight fee, and then some.”
After arriving at the objective, players will need to either defend some data, escort a rover to a dimensional portal, retrieve and deliver Aetherium Canisters, eliminate high value targets, or survive in the Dark Aether. Once the objective is complete, a beacon appears on the map surrounded by a Crafting Table, an Arsenal, and a Pack-a-Punch machine. Now a choice must be made: Exfil and end the game or enter the dimensional portal to a toucher challenge with better rewards.
On the subject of rewards, taking part in Outbreak will offer players two new tiers of Aetherium Crystals that can be used to upgrade skills to tier five.
Outbreak will arrive as part of Season 2 in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on February 25th.
