Battlefield 2042 video shows Irish, gunplay, Renewal map in action

Following the reveal of Battlefield 4‘s Irish as the fifth Battlefield 2042 Specialist, developer DICE has released a brief gameplay video showing the ex-Marine in action.

The video shows Irish in the heat of battle. First, we see him putting down his DCS Deployable Cover and using it to get a nasty head glitch against the enemies. A second scene shows him placing an APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel next to cover to protect against incoming explosives.

What’s notable is that this video contains more gunplay than we’ve seen in any other 2042 gameplay trailer so far and that it takes place on a different map than previous trailers. The map seems to be Renewal, which is located in Egypt. Renewal is notable for its bifurcated map design: Half of it takes place in a lush agricultural center, while the other half seems to be arid desert, with a large wall running the length of the map that separates the two. The first scene seems to be inside the agricultural center, while the next is definitely somewhere in the desert.

Hopefully this is only the first of several videos showing off the game’s Specialists, as fans have been clamoring for more gameplay footage. While we have gotten a gameplay trailer as well as gameplay footage from the new Portal mode that’s debuting in 2042, we haven’t seen much in the way of gunplay or specialist gadgets in action.

Still, we don’t have long to wait until we get to try the game for ourselves. The open beta is set to launch sometime in September. We might get an announcement about exact dates during Gamescom, which kicks off on August 24th.

Battlefield 2042 is launching on October 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
