Battlefield 2042 gameplay footage shows off more Specialists on more maps

DICE has released new gameplay footage of Battlefield 2042 that shows off four of the game’s Specialists, as well as giving us gameplay on maps we haven’t seen in action yet.

Just like with the Irish gameplay footage, the new video shows off the specialties and traits of four of the game’s previously announced characters: Webster Mackay, Maria Falck, Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, and Wikus “Casper” Van Daele. As we previously covered, Mackay is an assault Specialist with a grappling hook, Falck is a support Specialist with a Syrette Pistol, Boris is an engineer with an auto-sentry, and Casper is a recon with a pilotable drone.

Not only do we get to see these characters in action, but we also get to see them used on several of 2042‘s launch maps. Previous trailers have shown off Hourglass and Renewal, but now we get a few snippets of Discarded, Kaleidoscope, and Orbital as well.

Interestingly enough, DICE has already decided to nerf one of the specialists. According to community manager Adam Freeman, Falck’s S21 Syrette Pistol—which could revive and heal players from a distance—was proving to be too overpowered in recent technical tests. DICE has changed that gadget so now it only heals players. However, Falck’s trait means she can still revive teammates to full health. She just has to do it up close with defibrillators.

Freeman also stated that throughout the month we’ll get our first look at the five other Specialists that DICE has yet to reveal, as well as more information about the open beta. DICE hasn’t announced a date for the open beta yet, but leaker Tom Henderson, who has had a solid track record so far, has pointed to September 22nd as the beta’s early access start date.

Battlefield 2042 launches on October 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
