Infinity Ward comments on Modern Warfare 2’s mini-map, footsteps, Dead Silence, more
Infinity Ward has responded to feedback from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta players regarding the changes it has made for this year’s entry.
To start with, players have been complaining about enemy players only showing on the mini-map when a UAV is active. In previous entries, players also appeared on the mini-map when fully sprinting or firing a weapon that isn’t silenced. Infinity Ward explained that it doesn’t want to punish players for firing their weapons.
“We also want players to actively search out the origin of a gunshot versus just traveling directly to where the dot is on the mini-map. We continue to gather feedback on how the game is playing in regards to this topic,” the developer added.
While Infinity Ward is sticking to its guns regarding the mini-map, the developer did admit that changes need to be made when it comes to target tracking. The developer will be reducing muzzle smoke opacity, increasing the visibility of the muzzle flash, and also making it easier to visually differentiate enemies and friendlies.
Another incoming change is to footstep audio. In beta weekend two, the range of footstep audio when jogging, sprinting, and using tactical sprint are being reduced. As well as this, the footsteps of enemy and friendly players will now be more distinct.
Infinity Ward also commented on its controversial change to Dead Silence. In Modern Warfare 2, Dead Silence has been moved from a perk to a field upgrade. The developer reiterated that “it is important to game health that rushers are not able to move at high speeds without consequence.”
Finally, the developer stated that it will be fixing crashes, closing map exploits, and updating the Gunsmith to address some issues during the second beta weekend.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta returns tomorrow, September 22nd. In this beta, Xbox and PC players will be able to jump in alongside PlayStation players.
