XCOM 2 is free to play on Xbox One and PC
2K has announced that XCOM 2 will be free to play for a limited time on Xbox One and PC as part of its Give Back Project.
The game will be free until April 29th on Xbox One and April 30th on Steam. All progress made during the free trial can be carried over to the full game, if players choose to purchase it.
“Earth has changed,” the game’s description reads. “Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.”
The sequel sees players take command of an alien supply craft turned mobile headquarters known as the Avenger and features five soldier classes, a new alien species called the Advent, and head-to-head multiplayer.
In other XCOM-related news, 2K and Firaxis Games have just released XCOM: Chimera Squad. This new standalone entry in the series is set five years after the events of XCOM 2 and puts players in control of Chimera Squad, an elite force of human, hybrid, and alien soldiers.
