Xbox’s FPS Boost launched for backward compatible games, starting with select titles
Xbox has launched its new FPS Boost initiative, which is looking to bring higher framerates to backward compatible games on Xbox Series X and S.
The first selection of games that will support FPS Boost are Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 2, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, and UFC 4. The launch announcement states that New Super Lucky’s Tale can run up to 120 FPS, and UFC 4 can hit 60 FPS on Series S, though that might mean that Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs 2‘s upgrades are only available on Series X.
Xbox plans on bringing FPS Boost to more games in the feature, as well as bringing new system settings that will give players more options. In the spring, Xbox will introduce Compatibility Options to the “Manage Game” section that will allow players to toggle FPS Boost and Auto HDR.
Weirdly enough, even though Xbox used Fallout 4 as a demo for the potential of something like FPS Boost back in October 2020, that game was not on the list. However, it’s possible that the Xbox backward compatibility team is waiting to bring FPS Boost to Bethesda games until Microsoft finalizes its acquisition of ZeniMax Media.
