Red Dead Online now available as a standalone game
As previously announced, Rockstar Games has launched Red Dead Online as a standalone game. The multiplayer experience had previously only been available by purchasing Red Dead Redemption 2. Now players who don’t care about the story mode can pick up the cheaper standalone version.
If they act quickly, the discount is even steeper. Red Dead Online is just $4.99 until February 15th, 2021, at which point the price will increase to $19.99.
The standalone version includes all content released for Red Dead Online since launch. While many of the core mechanics—like horse riding/pampering, gunslinging, and lassoing—are shared with Red Dead Redemption 2, there’s a stronger focus on choosing your own role.
Rockstar released a trailer to celebrate the launch.
Also launching today are an expansion to the Bounty Hunter role and a new “Outlaw Pass,” the game’s version of a Battle Pass progression system. On the former topic, players will be able to buy a new “Prestigious Bounty Hunter License,” which adds 10 new progression ranks and offers “high level items and skills to acquire, new weapon variants and horses, Infamous Bounty targets on the Bounty Boards and more.”
Red Dead Online is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic Games Store, and Steam. The game is also playable on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.
