October Xbox update adds 4K dashboard for Series X
Xbox has announced the new features coming with its October 2021 update, including a native 4K dashboard for the Series X.
That’s right: The 4K dashboard that Xbox announced in August has arrived. If you have a Series X hooked up to a 4K display, the dashboard should look a little crisper with the October update. Previously, these elements displayed in 1080p. This change will impact UI elements like icons and buttons, as well as game art and text.
The Series X isn’t the only console getting quality of life changes. The October update also introduces a night mode that “adjusts light sources to help keep rooms dark at night and support gamers who are sensitive to light,” according to Xbox Experiences’ principal program manager, Jonathan Hildebrandt.
Night mode goes much further than just letting you dim your display. You can adjust the brightness of the power button on your console and your controller. It even includes a customizable blue light filter and the option to schedule when night mode kicks in.
Finally, the October update adds a Quick Settings menu to the Xbox Guide. This lets users quickly toggle accessibility features for friends or family members with different accessibility needs.
