No plans to release a new Nintendo Switch model this year, says Nintendo
Rumors have been circulating for a while now that Nintendo is preparing to launch a more powerful Nintendo Switch model. However, the company revealed in its latest financial results briefing that there are “no plans” for a new model this year.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa added that “it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base.”
This follows on from the announcement that the Nintendo Switch has now sold more than 52 million units worldwide, with the Nintendo Switch Lite accounting for 5.19 million of those sales.
The company also announced that the recently released Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have sold more than 16 million copies since launch, which jumps them up to fifth in the Nintendo Switch best sellers list. Only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have sold more.
