Fortnite coming to Xbox Series X and PS5 at launch, Unreal Engine 5 upgrade planned
Epic Games has announced that an optimized version of Fortnite will be available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at launch.
According to the developer, this optimized version of the game will “take advantage of the new hardware and features on next-gen consoles.” Exact details were not shared, but the developer said that players can expect improved performance and visuals.
Epic added that cross-progression and cross-platform play will be supported across all platforms, including between current-gen and next-generation consoles.
The upcoming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of Fortnite will be built using Unreal Engine 4. However, the developer plans to migrate the game to the recently announced Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021.
Fortnite is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
