Epic has no plans for in-person Fortnite events in 2021

Epic Games has announced that it has no plans to hold any in-person Fortnite events during 2021 due to COVID-19.

“Our intent is to eventually hold global in-person tournaments again, but our priority for any such event is the health and safety of our players and staff. With so much still unknown about what is practical and safe, we do not plan to hold in-person events in 2021, including a Fortnite World Cup,” the developer explained in a blog post. “We will continue to provide online competitions throughout 2021 with the hopes that physical events, in some form, can return at some point in the future.”

The developer also confirmed that the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) will continue in 2021 with a standardized party size of Trios. Epic added that it “may alter the scoring and/or qualification formats season by season.” Season 5’s FNCS is scheduled for February 4th.

Finally, in addition to the FNCS, Epic is planning to hold weekly tournaments, unique tournaments, and Creator Cups throughout 2021.

In other news, Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 5 recently got underway. This latest season introduced new locations, additional weapons, NPCs, a new bounty system, Bars, and more. Find out more here.
