Crash Bandicoot 4 reveals Tawna gameplay, playable demo plans

Activision and Toys for Bob have teamed up with PlayStation Underground to reveal new Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time gameplay featuring the return of Tawna.

As you can see in the video below, Tawna’s gameplay differs from the other characters in two main ways. First, she can wall jump off particular panels in the environment. Second, she has a grappling hook—or hook-shot—that she can use to pull herself across the map.

As fans of the series will no doubt notice, this Tawna has a much different look, ditching her short shorts and poof of blonde hair for patchwork pants and a colorful, floppy mohawk. There’s good reason for that. This new version of the character is not the exact same person—er, bandicoot. Instead, she hails from an alternate universe where she, not Crash, is the hero. (Also, her universe’s Crash is probably dead.)

In a PlayStation Blog post accompanying the new trailer, the new design is meant to convey “a woman who walks to the beat of her own drum,” as well as “a daring, driven, and confident hero.”

Tawna is the third new playable character revealed for Crash Bandicoot 4, joining Dingodile and series villain Doctor Neo Cortex. You’ll also be able to play as both Crash and his sister, Coco, of course.

Of course, if you’re eager to play the game, rather than just watch it, today has also brought good news on that front. Anyone who preorders the game digitally will be able to access a demo starting September 16th. This early slice of the game includes two levels—Snow Way Out and Dino Dash—as well as a chance to play through an alternate timeline of Snow Way Out as Cortex.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launches October 2nd on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
