Battlefield 2021 reveal date announced
The next Battlefield game will be revealed on June 9th at 7 a.m. PT, according to the game’s official Twitter account.
The announcement came in the form of a brief teaser video, which also seemingly confirms several leaked details.
The most obvious hint in the reveal date announcement is the color scheme of the text. This turquoise hue is something that leaker Tom Henderson has talked about previously, and it’s the same one we saw used in the internal video that found its way to Reddit last week.
The glitchy VFX also seem to hint at a modern or near-future setting. The last games in the series that used the same aesthetic were Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, which were both modern warfare games. Henderson and the leaked video have also pointed to a modern or near-future setting.
As for the text itself, it’s interesting to note that while the text is generally in series’ signature style, the letters are slightly askew. This could be a hint at the enhanced destructibility of the game’s environments, as EA CEO Andrew Wilson has mentioned. And while it’s referenced as Battlefield in the teaser, the game’s title could be something different. Just going with “Battlefield” seems like an SEO nightmare for EA’s marketing team.
Besides these hints and leaks, the only thing we know about the next Battlefield game is that it’s coming to both current- and last-gen consoles, i.e. Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It’s unclear exactly how these versions will differ from one another, but that’s probably not something we’ll find out on June 9th.
One final thing to note: Xbox Game Pass’ Twitter account announced new games coming to the platform, but the tweet itself used similar “June” and “soon” phrasing that the Battlefield Twitter account used a couple weeks back. Then Battlefield’s social media manager cheekily replied to the Game Pass tweet. Why is this interesting? Well, several “insiders” have mentioned that the next Battlefield will launch on Xbox Game Pass. This Twitter exchange is obviously not confirmation that the game is coming to Game Pass, though considering Game Pass Ultimate includes a subscription to EA Play, it isn’t inconceivable.
The next Battlefield game is scheduled to launch this holiday season.
