Assassin’s Creed Valhalla reveals first next-gen footage
Following last week’s cinematic reveal trailer, Ubisoft has unveiled our first real look at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay running on next-gen consoles.
The video, which debuted during the latest Inside Xbox presentation, is a bit less involved than traditional Assassin’s Creed gameplay reveals. We’re not getting an extended walkthrough of a mission or seeing combat as we’d actually play it in the finished product. Still, for 90 seconds worth of quick shots, it’s a technically impressive showcase of some of the game’s locations, characters, lighting, and weather effects. We even get a few glimpses of longboat sailing and massive siege battles.
The trailer notes that the visuals are “representative of expected Xbox Series X gameplay,” which is impressive, given that the quality is on par with prerendered trailers for some of the earlier games in the series.
Valhalla is set during the Viking Age, when raiding parties spread out from Scandinavia to conquer foreign lands. The game will place you in the role of a warrior named Eivor (male or female—your choice) who leaves Norway for England. Once you land on those jolly old shores, you’ll be able to build a settlement, forge alliances with the leaders of warring factions, and more. Judging by this new trailer, you’ll also get to visit Stonehenge and toot on a war horn.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches this holiday season on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
