Aliens: Fireteam gameplay debut shows off character classes, enemy types

The first gameplay for Aliens: Fireteam has debuted, showing off the different character classes and enemy types the game offers.

IGN released a 25-minute gameplay video recorded with Cold Iron Studios CEO Craig Zinkievich and COO Matt Highison. Throughout the mission, the three players fight through hordes of xenomorphs to get to the end of the level, similarly to how Left 4 Dead or World War Z works. There are four campaigns that, all told, will contain 12 different campaigns. Replayability comes with changing the difficulty level, earning new abilities and weapons, and playing new challenge cards before a mission, which will add significant mutators to the game.

The gameplay footage gives us a look at three of the five character classes. The Gunner is the all-around class with assault weapons, shotguns, and grenades. The Demolisher brings in heavy weaponry, including what looks like a smart machinegun. The Technician is focused on crowd control with turrets and charge coils. There are also the Doc and Recon classes.

We also got a look at several of the 20 different enemy types in the game. Different xenomorph types seen in the video are spitters and bursters, which pretty much do exactly what it sounds like. There is also a tough, bipedal xenomorph that will tackle players and then escape into nearby vents.

The mission ends with an intense, three-minute defense against a never-ending horde of xenomorphs. You can watch the entire video below.

Aliens: Fireteam launches this summer on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
