How cross-platform play will work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Activision and Infinity Ward have explained how cross-platform play will work in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the game’s upcoming beta.
“With crossplay, developer Infinity Ward is ensuring players can experience together the badass fun of Call of Duty multiplayer regardless of system,” a blog post reads. “This weekend’s Crossplay Open Beta will provide not only a great opportunity for gamers to have a blast together, but also provide developers important feedback as they polish for worldwide release next month.”
Cross-platform play will support Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but players can choose to opt-out and only play with their platform if they wish to.
Players who choose to opt-in to cross-play will be split into keyboard and mouse, controller, and mixed inputs. As explained in the post, console players can use a keyboard and mouse but will be paired with PC players and other console players using a keyboard and mouse. While PC players using a controller will be paired with controller users on PC and console.
Cross-platform play will be available across all multiplayer modes, except for Ranked and tournaments.
The second beta weekend for Modern Warfare gets underway this Friday, September 20th.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches October 25th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
