World of Warcraft Classic is getting its first expansion

Blizzard has revealed that it will be releasing the Burning Crusade expansion for World of Warcraft Classic later this year.

The expansion will take players back to the Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh to face down Illidan the Betrayer. Players will also get two new playable races, with the Blood Elves joining the Horde and the Draenei for the Alliance. Other additions include Arena PVP, flying mounts, new dungeons, a 10- and 25-player raid, Jewelcrafting, and more.

“The World of Warcraft community made it clear that they wanted WoW Classic, and now they’re eager to continue their journey into The Burning Crusade,” J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said. “Since the launch of WoW Classic and as we rolled out content updates, we’ve learned a lot about what players want from an experience like this in 2021. We’re building on that to ensure players’ new adventures in Outland are as epic as ever, whether they’re taking a return trip through the Dark Portal or joining us for the very first time.”

Before entering the Dark Portal and proceeding to the Burning Crusade, players will be able to choose whether they wish to progress into the new content or continue their original Classic journey on new Classic Era servers. Additionally, Blizzard is offering a level 58 character boost for players who wish to jump straight into the new content.

World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic will be included in players’ existing World of Warcraft subscriptions.
