The Outer Worlds apparently teasing DLC announcement
Obsidian Entertainment is teasing something new for the excellent first-person action-RPG The Outer Worlds, and a new DLC or expansion appears to be the most likely explanation.
Earlier this week’s the game’s Twitter account posted a message promoting an update to the official website, framed as an announcement from the fictional Board that controls the Halcyon star system.
When you visit the site, you’re greeted with a new banner asking you to “Stay tuned for another special message from Spacer’s Choice,” a reference to one of the corporations in the game. Clicking through this banner displays another: an ad displaying a person in a protective suit holding a round-bottom flask (we’re guessing a scientist) superimposed on an image of an asteroid (or other planetary body). The slogan reads “On Gorgon, it’s always… Adrena-Time.” A second line reads “Made with real Xenocyte waste!”
So what to make of it? Gorgon seems most likely to be a new location, but it’s one that wasn’t mentioned at all in The Outer Worlds, so we don’t have much to go off of there. “Xenocyte” is also an unknown, though its Greek roots give some hints. “Xeno” means “foreign,” “strange,” or “alien,” while “cyte” refers to a mature cell. Could it be the name of a new type of alien enemy?
Adrena-Time, on the other hand, we do know. It’s a drug that players can use in-game to temporarily boost their movement and melee attack speed.
If we take the slogan literally, perhaps everything moves faster on Gorgon, and we’ll be getting a DLC that amps up the pace of gameplay. If we just read it as marketing, perhaps we’ll be embarking on an adventure that teaches us more about the origins of Adrena-Time.
Either way, we likely won’t have to wait too much longer to find out more.
The Outer Worlds is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.
