Star Wars Jedi: Survivor revealed, coming 2023

Cal Kestis is back.

EA and Respawn Entertainment have released the first trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to 2019’s Fallen Order, during Disney’s Star Wars Celebration.

Much about the game remains a mystery, but a few things are obvious from the brief but dense debut trailer and accompanying press release.

For starters, the first game’s protagonist, Cal Kestis, will be starring once again. His robot companion BD-1 is back as well. And they’re both looking a little more high-definition, thanks to graphics powered by the new generation of hardware.

The press release adds a bit of additional context, as well. This game will be set five years after the events of Fallen Order, and the Empire is still on the hunt for him, given that he’s still “one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy.”

“Even before completing Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision of how to carry the adventure for Cal, BD, and the crew into the sequel,” said Stig Asmussen, who’s returning as game director, as part of the announcement. “For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times. We can’t wait to share more about the game with the world later this year.”

As for what we don’t know? Well, there are far too many questions to cover them all, but some of the biggest: What’s Cal been up to for the last five year? Who’s that toothy guy, who very much seems to be a Sith Lord? Who’s the guy in the tank that Cal has apparently been searching for? And perhaps most importantly, how will all this fit into the established Star Wars canon, given that Cal’s quest needs to dovetail with the Jedi not being much of a presence in the universe until the events of A New Hope.

EA says Survivor will come to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2023.
