Star Trek: Resurgence brings Leonard Nimoy back to life
Star Trek: Resurgence, a new adventure game based on the science fiction franchise, is coming to consoles and PC next year. The news came during The Game Awards 2021, with the debut of a new trailer showing off a decent chunk of gameplay.
More important and more ethically confusing, however, is that the trailer includes Spock, looking a lot like the late Leonard Nimoy. The voice is obviously a soundalike, but still. Digital ghosts! Unsettling!
An FAQ on the official site runs down some of the basics, but the gist is this: It’s a single-player, story-driven episodic third-person game, in which you’ll switch perspectives between two main characters. Think a Telltale game, basically—hardly a surprise considering developer Dramatic Labs is made up of former Telltale staff.
The game is set in 2380, immediately following the Next Generation films. While the focus is on original characters, Dramatic Labs promises the return of some “fan favorites.” Apparently even the veil of death can’t stop potential cameos, so who knows who’ll show up.
Star Trek: Resurgence will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via the Epic Game Store in spring 2022.
