Seasons, a battle pass, and a new Voyage announced for Sea of Thieves
Rare has revealed that it will be introducing seasonal updates and a battle pass to Sea of Thieves in January.
In a recent video, creative director Mike Chapman announced that the game is moving to a seasonal update schedule starting January, with a season lasting approximately three months. Each season, players can expect a brand-new piece of content or way to play the game, live events, new rewards, Emporium updates, and quality-of-life patches.
Accompanying the move to seasons is a new progression system that will offer players 100 levels to work through by earning Renown. By progressing, players can unlock new rewards for their pirate and ship, as well as exclusives for pirate legends. An optional premium Plunder Pass is also available to purchase during each season that grants access to unique rewards and exclusives from the Emporium.
In terms of new content, Rare is adding a Merchant Alliance Voyage that tasks players with piecing together clues to locate a lost shipment.
Finally, the developer announced that development of the PvP Arena mode is being halted due to the majority of players spending their time in Adventure. The mode will still be available to players, but there won’t be any new content.
Sea of Thieves is available now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
