Risk of Rain 2 is leaving Steam Early Access next month

Risk of Rain 2 will leave Steam Early Access and officially launch with the release of the 1.0 update on August 11th, Gearbox Publishing and Hopoo Games have announced.

The 1.0 update will introduce The Captain, the game’s 10th playable character. The Captain wields a shotgun-rifle combo that can stun targets and can also request probes and beacons from orbit to shield or heal allies.

Players can also look forward to The Moon as a new stage, a Server Browser, new skill variants, and a number of new items, such as the Super Massive Leech that drains opponent’s health.

“Early Access has felt like a crazy ride through uncharted space, and we can’t thank you all enough for supporting us over the last year and a half,” the developer wrote on Steam. “We’ve had great fun steering through Early Access together, and we will always be thankful for the patience and excitement our community has displayed. We will have more information on the Console launch of 1.0 in the future – but it should follow a very similar cadence to the previous console launches.”

Risk of Rain 2 is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
