PS5’s September system update coming tomorrow to consoles everywhere
Sony launches the September system software update for PlayStation 5 tomorrow, and it’s adding a ton of new features.
Firstly, M.2 SSD storage expansion will go live for everyone. A beta for this feature launched in July. Now every PlayStation 5 owner can play games directly from their expanded storage. Expanded storage must meet minimum performance and size requirements.
The update also brings 3D audio to built-in TV speakers. According to Sony, “[o]nce enabled in the Sound menu, this feature transforms standard two-channel TV speaker audio into three-dimensional sound, heightening the sense of gameplay immersion.” Pulse 3D Wireless Headsets also get new equalizer settings.
New social experience customizations and UX enhancements are also coming in the update. The biggest improvement is that the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game will now appear separately in the installed tab, so you know exactly which version you’re running.
