PlayStation 5 update finally matches one significant Xbox Series feature
Sony just released a new update for the PlayStation 5 that finally adds a feature that Xbox Series X/S owners have enjoyed since the latest generation of consoles launched.
Updating your PS5’s system software to version 22.01-05.50.00 will allow you to enable auto low latency mode (ALLM), as long as your display supports such a feature. Your TV probably calls it “Game Mode.” Turning on ALLM will automatically engage that mode, which targets input lag at the cost of a slight reduction in image quality.
You can enable or disable ALLM in your video output section of your screen and video settings. Disabling it will mean that your TV won’t go into low-latency mode unless you have variable refresh rate output enabled on your display.
ALLM is something that Xbox owners have enjoyed for a couple of console generations now, so it’s good to see that PS5 finally has this quality of life feature. In addition to ALLM, the latest software update also “improves system performance,” though the update notes didn’t go into detail about how.
