PlayStation 5 reveal event date reportedly revealed
A new report claims to reveal Sony’s planned date for a major PlayStation 5 reveal, and there’s good reason to believe this one.
In a new story, Bloomberg Tech says that that Sony currently plans to hold its PS5 virtual event on Wednesday, June 3rd. That’s just a week away from when we’re writing this.
So what makes this report more authoritative than previous rumors? The byline here is shared by Jason Schreier, the well-connected reporter who broke dozens of major stories at Kotaku before leaving for Bloomberg earlier this year.
The report cautions that sources say the plan may still change but Schreier noted on Twitter that June 3rd is “more firm” than previously rumors dates.
So far, Sony has shared relatively little on the PlayStation 5 and has yet to announce a single first-party game, instead focusing on the controller and tech specs. That’s expected to change with this event, as earlier reporting from Venture Beat’s Jeff Grub claimed that an early June stream would reveal a wide variety of first- and third-party games. That report also claimed that a second digital event would follow later in the summer.
The PlayStation 5 is expected to launch this holiday season.
