‘Play right away’ and ‘no load times’ are reportedly major selling points for PS5
Sony appears to be focusing on getting players playing games as quickly as possible when it comes to the PlayStation 5, according to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier.
“‘Play right away, download just what you need, no load times’ will be some of Sony’s top selling points for the PlayStation 5,” he said in response to a comment about Stadia’s lack of patches.
As previously announced, Sony’s next-generation console will include an SSD as standard. This much faster hard drive will severely cut down install and load times, as well as allowing for better streaming of assets in games.
To further help reduce wait times and save some hard drive space, the PlayStation 5 will allow players to only install certain parts of games, such as just the single-player or multiplayer portion. “Rather than treating games like a big block of data, we’re allowing finer-grained access to the data,” system architect Mark Cerny said in an interview with Wired last month.
PlayStation 5 is set to release in holiday 2020.
