Nintendo Switch Lite unveiled
Following rumors of new Nintendo Switch models, Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch Lite.
This new addition to the Nintendo Switch family is smaller than the current Switch and is designed to specifically play games in handheld mode. The Lite has a 5.5″ screen, integrated controls, no kickstand, and does not support output to a TV.
According to Nintendo, the Switch Lite will be able to play all games in the Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode, but did warn that “some games will have restrictions.”
“Adding Nintendo Switch Lite to the lineup gives gamers more color and price point options,” Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser said. “Now consumers can choose the system that best suits how they like to play their favorite Nintendo Switch games.”
The Nintendo Switch Lite comes in yellow, gray, and turquoise, and will be available from September 20th for $199.99.
Nintendo also announced a special Pokémon-themed version of the Switch Lite. The Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition is gray in color and features cyan and magenta buttons, and illustrations of the two legendary Pokémon on the back. However, it does not include a copy of either Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield. This special edition will be available from November 8th for $199.99.
