Next major PlayStation 5 reveal reportedly coming this month
Sony will make its next major PlayStation 5 announcement before the end of August, according to a new report.
The news comes as part of a broader report at Bloomberg about the company’s financial forecasts for the fiscal year. Citing an anonymous “official at the PlayStation unit,” Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki reports that “Sony’s next announcement regarding the PlayStation 5 is tentatively scheduled for this month.”
Given that we’re rapidly approaching the PlayStation 5’s holiday 2020 launch window, Sony will likely want to open preorders for the console soon. What’s more, the company has promised fans that they’ll have advance notice before retailers begin presales. Given that we still don’t know a preorder date, a release date, or pricing—for either the disc-based and all-digital models—any or all of those are obvious next steps for Sony.
While an announcement is reportedly slated for this month, we know for certain it won’t arrive during the State of Play broadcast later this week. Sony has confirmed that the August 6th stream will focus on PS4 and PSVR games and won’t include any major hardware announcements.
The PlayStation 5 is due out later this year, with most speculation pointing towards a November launch.
