MLB The Show 21 dominates PlayStation Store’s April charts
Sony has released the PlayStation Store download charts for April, and it was a huge month for MLB The Show 21.
In the U.S. and Canada, the baseball sim topped the charts for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. While it didn’t even chart in Europe, that’s to be expected, since baseball isn’t a particularly popular sport over there.
Of course, the even better news for Sony San Diego is that, in a first for the series, MLB The Show 21 also launched on competing consoles: Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. If the game sold just as well on those other platforms, it’s quite likely this is a record year for the series.
Another newcomer to the charts is Outriders, which took the number-two spot in both the U.S./Canada and Europe for PlayStation 5. The news was less good on PS4, however, with People Can Fly’s RPG-shooter only managing a fourth-place and 15th-place finish in the U.S./Canada and Europe, respectively.
Also off to a strong start is Returnal, a PS5 exclusive, charting in third in the U.S./Canada and fourth in Europe. The Housemarque-developed, bullet-hell inspired shooter did surprisingly well, considering it went on sale April 30th. In other words, it sold enough to chart this high in just one day. By contrast, Outriders launched April 1st, and MLB The Show 21 launched April 16th.
