Microsoft announces big user increases for Xbox Live

Even as we near the end of the current generation of consoles, the Xbox One and its services aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Microsoft revealed this week that Xbox Live reached a record 90 million monthly active users recently, which includes both those playing games on Xbox consoles as well as other platforms and games that utilize Xbox Live in some way (such as Minecraft on non-Xbox systems).

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s subscription service Xbox Game Pass has reached more than 10 million subscribers, while its streaming service Project xClould now has hundreds of thousands of users taking part in its preview program.

Finally, with so many of us still stuck at home unable to go out and see people in the real world, head of Xbox Phil Spencer revealed that a lot of friendships have recently been forged online.

“Since March, Xbox Game Pass members have added over 23 million friends on Xbox Live, which is a 70% growth in friendship rate. Game Pass members are also playing twice as much and engaging in more multiplayer gaming, which has increased by 130%.”
