Mario anniversary announcements include battle royale, Game & Watch, and All-Stars
Nintendo held a special Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct today that included a number of announcements.
First up is Super Mario Bros. 35, a battle royale game for Nintendo Switch. Players will race through the same timed stage, with defeated enemies granting extra time and also being sent to a chosen opponent’s level. Players can also pick up coins that can be used to purchase in-game powerups to give them an edge over the competition. The last Mario standing wins.
Super Mario Bros. 35 will be free for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers from October 1st and will be available until March 31st, 2021.
Also announced was a special collectible device inspired by Game & Watch. Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. features a modern plus control pad, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, and a special version of Ball with a Mario makeover. The device will be available from November 13th for $49.99.
In addition, Nintendo revealed that Super Mario All-Stars will be added to the SNES Nintendo Switch Online library later today. The collection includes upgraded versions of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3.
Finally, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will be coming to Nintendo Switch on February 21st, 2021. This enhanced version of the Wii U title features both online and local co-op across a variety of levels.
In other news, Nintendo also announced that it is bringing Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy to Nintendo Switch as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
