Hogwarts Legacy gameplay reveals holiday 2022 release window
During Sony’s latest State of Play broadcast, Warner Bros. Games shared an extended look at Hogwarts Legacy and confirmed that the game will release in holiday 2022.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Hogwarts Legacy places players in the role of a fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who has the ability to control ancient magic. Players will have to uncover why this long-forgotten magic has returned and who is trying to use it to destroy the wizarding world.
The footage below opens with a look at character creation and then shows the player going through the Sorting Ceremony to decide which of the four houses they will be joining. Each of the four houses has its own explorable dormitories and common rooms. We then get a glimpse of the various classes players will be attending during their time at Hogwarts, including Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions.
Later in the video, we get a look at exploration, characters, magical creatures, combat, the upgrade and talent system, and the Room of Requirement. This special room acts as a customizable hub that players can use for crafting, brewing potions, upgrading gear, and more.
“With Hogwarts Legacy, we had the incredible opportunity to tell any story we wanted within the wizarding world. One fantasy stood out. Many fans of Harry Potter imagined what it would be like to receive their own Hogwarts letter, be sorted, and attend Hogwarts,” game director Alan Tew said in a PlayStation Blog post. “More than anything else, we wanted to allow fans, after all these years, to finally tell their story, their way, at the most beloved school of witchcraft and wizardry.”
Hogwarts Legacy is set to launch holiday 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
