Fortnite World Cup 2020 has been canceled

Epic Games has announced that this year’s Fortnite World Cup will not be happening due to COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus.

In an update on the Fortnite Competitive Twitter account, the developer explained that all physical Fortnite events will be moved to online. However, “due to the limitations of cross region online competition,” the Fortnite World Cup will not be happening.

“We don’t know when a return to large, global, in-person events will be practical, but we’re hopeful to be able to put on some form of Fortnite World Cup in 2021,” the developer added.

Epic went on to confirm that the Fortnite Champion Series will return each season throughout the rest of the year and Cash Cups will occur “on a routine basis.” The developer will be “iterating on how players earn points, as well as the structure of the tournaments” in upcoming Cash Cup events.

Finally, official broadcasts will be returning for competitive events. First up is the opening weekend of the Fortnite Champion Series Invitational which gets underway at 1 p.m. ET tomorrow, May 2nd.
