First Resident Evil Village gameplay, surprise “Maiden” demo launch, collaboration with The Division 2

Today’s Resident Evil Showcase has just ended, so in case you missed it, here’s a rundown of the big things that were part of the show.

The biggest, of course, is Resident Evil Village. Today, we got our first proper look at gameplay, along with some new details on the game. I won’t spoil them for you in case you’re trying to avoid all spoilers, but I will at least say that the internet’s favorite tall vampire lady (who we now know is named Lady Dimitrescu) definitely gets more screen time.

(Separate video of the gameplay showcase isn’t up as of my writing this, so for now, you can find it as part of the full Resident Evil Showcase.)

Capcom also finally gave us a date for Resident Evil Village: May 7th, 2021. A surprising—or not at all surprising—detail is that the game will be coming to current-gen platforms as well. Only the PlayStation 4 version was announced, as the stream was done in conjunction with Sony, but it’s obvious that it’ll be getting an Xbox One release as well. Capcom mentioned that the digital PS4 version would get a free upgrade to PS5, but there was no mention of how that’ll work on Xbox—though I figure it’ll just be your basic Smart Delivery upgrade like a lot of other games.

However, there’s another important date to keep in mind: January 21st, 2021. As in, today. Why? Because today will see the launch of a special PlayStation 5 demo that’ll give players a taste of the game through the eyes of a character called the “Maiden.” A separate demo will be coming to all other platforms (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PC), but it won’t be hitting until the spring.

Also revealed during the showcase was RE:Verse, the game Capcom had recently been teasing a beta test for. RE:Verse will be free for everyone who purchases Resident Evil Village, and is a new multiplayer game that “features beloved Resident Evil characters as they clash in six-person deathmatches.”

Finally, in definitely the weirdest part of the showcase, it was revealed that a new collaboration is going to be taking place between Resident Evil and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. “Iconic outfits, weapon skins, and more” are being added to the game, and in the quick teaser, we got to see outfits for Jill, Chris, Rebecca (at least from what I can tell), Leon, and Hunk. Leon’s outfit, by the way, will be free to anyone who logs into the game from February 2nd through the 15th.
