Far Cry 6 officially revealed with two new trailers, gameplay screens
Following way too many leaks, Ubisoft has officially revealed Far Cry 6 during its Ubisoft Forward livestream presentation.
A pair of cinematic trailers, a slew of gameplay screenshots, and an update to the game’s official website have confirmed many of the previously leaked details. The game will be set in the island nation of Yara, seemingly inspired by Cuba, and star Breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito as the villainous dictator Anon Castillo. As revolution rages in the streets, Castillo prepares his son Diego, played by Anthony Gonzalez (Pixar’s Coco) for his future as a leader.
The father-son relationship formed the backbone for the game’s cinematic trailer, which features a great look at Esposito doing what he does best—the kind of low-key menace that has made him a go-to on high-profile TV shows.
Ubisoft also published a brief interview video with Esposito and Gonzales, which includes some footage of the two in a full motion-capture getups.
Players will take on the role of a Yaran native Dani Rojas, who’ll be playable as either male or female. Dani will join the revolution and fight back to topple Castillo with improvised weaponry, vehicles, and new “Fangs for Hire” animal companions that help out in combat, like a wheelchair-bound Dachshund named Chorizo.
The world of Yara promises to be the largest Far Cry playground to date, with a mix of urban environments, jungles, and beaches. Though it’s quite minimalist in the vein of a TV intro, a second trailer shown today offers some glimpses at the variety of the game will offer.
While none of these show actual gameplay, the publisher did release a set of in-game screenshots that do showcase the visual fidelity of the experience, as well as a number of environments from around the island.
Ubisoft has also announced that preordering the game will grant you access to to a special Libertad pack, featuring a weaponized disc launcher called the Discos Loco, as well as an outfit for Chorizo.
Alongside the standard version, Ubisoft announced three special editions of the game. Here are the official details:
The Gold Edition will include the base game and the Season Pass.
The Ultimate Edition will include the base game, the Season Pass, and the Ultimate pack, which includes Jungle Expedition pack, the Croc Hunter pack, and the Vice pack.
The Collector’s Edition will include the base game, Season Pass, the Ultimate pack, a high-end replica of “Tostador,” an in-game flamethrower weapon (7 parts to be assembled, length: 72cm), a “How to Assemble” one-pager artwork illustrated by artist Tobatron, a unique Collector’s Case based on Tobatron’s iconic art style, an exclusive Steelbook, a 64-page artbook, a set of 10 stickers, a Chorizo keyring, a map, and a selected soundtrack.
