Cyberpunk 2077 owners on Xbox One will get the Series X upgrade for free
Anyone who purchases Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free when it is released, developer CD Projekt Red has announced.
“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” the developer wrote on Twitter. “Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available.”
This will be possible thanks to the recently unveiled cross-buy Smart Delivery feature for Xbox Series X. This feature will be available for all Xbox Game Studios titles and makes it so players only have to purchase a game once to get the best version of the game on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. As revealed earlier today, the feature is also available to third-party developers and publishers who are releasing games on Xbox One first before bringing them to Xbox Series X.
“This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on,” Microsoft explained. “We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on.”
Cyberpunk 2077 launches September 17th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
