Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time multiplayer modes announced

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will let you compete against three of your friends in two different competitive multiplayer modes to decide who is the best bandicoot.

IGN has revealed Checkpoint Race and Crate Combo, two competitive modes for up to four players—Crash, CoCo, Fake Crash, and Fake CoCo—that are launching with the game.

Checkpoint Race tests players’ speed through Crash 4‘s dangerous levels. As a series of races to each checkpoint crate in a level, messing up one leg of the race won’t count you out, as the winner is whoever wins the most checkpoints, not whoever has the overall fastest time on a level.

The second mode, Crate Combo, is more about smashing as many crates as you can, as efficiently as you can, to stack your point total. Hitting a crate will start a combo meter. Every time you hit another crate while your combo meter is still active, you’ll double the amount of points that each crate is worth to up to 32 points. Hitting crates will refresh the meter, so you have to make sure to keep the combo going, or else it will reset the crates’ point value. A run will end when you die or make it to a checkpoint.

These modes are supported by another new feature of Crash 4: Pass N. Play cooperative mode. In this mode, players can progress together through the game’s levels by passing the controller when prompted and tracking each player’s progress.

All of these modes are in addition to the standard campaign, which lets you also play as characters like Neo Cortex, Dingodile, and Tawna, as well as the game’s N. Verted mode variations and secret Flashback Levels. All told, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is looking to offer a ton of content for fans of jumping, spinning, and sliding.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launches on October 2nd for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
