Check out the first trailer for Avowed, Obsidian’s new fantasy RPG

When Obsidian Entertainment was acquired by Microsoft, fans hoped that that would mean the studio would have the financial and manpower resources to make an epic new RPG. Today, it looks like that is indeed happening.

During the Xbox Games Showcase, a teaser trailer was shown for Avowed, a new first-person role-playing game from Obsidian. When we say teaser, this is definitely little more than a tease—but it hints at a sprawling fantasy world where players with battle with both swords and spells.

Obsidian has a long history crafting RPGs—from Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, to Neverwinter Nights 2, to Alpha Protocol, to Fallout: New Vegas—so there’s definitely reason to be excited for what the team is working on here. Getting the chance to see more of that project, however, is something you may need to stay calm on for now.
