Can’t find a PS5? Try being good at Fortnite

The PlayStation 5 is all but impossible to find right now if you’re not willing to pay a scalper double the sticker price, but there may be another solution: Fortnite.

Epic has announced the Fortnite Generations Cup, a solo tournament that will award the first-place winners in each region a standard model PlayStation 5.

The Generations Cup is exclusive to PlayStation platforms, so you’ll need to play on a PS4 or PS5. (Then again, if you already have a PS5, why are you trying to win one away from people who still need one?)

Competitors will earn points based on their final rank in each match during the competition, with 10 points for a Victory Royale. Each additional elimination earns another point to your score. The top-scoring winner in each region will win the PS5.

If the tournament ends in a tie, the winner will be decided by the number of Victory Royales, then the number of eliminations in the session, then the average placement, and then, if it’s still a tie, a coin flip.

While there’s only one console on offer per region, hundreds of participants will be able to walk away with a consolation prize in the form of in-game cosmetics: the Indigo Kuno Outfit and Indigo Kama Back Bling (pictured above).

Exactly how high you’ll need to place to nab these items varies by the size of the region. In Europe, you’ll need to place in the top 2,400, for instance, but in Oceania you’ll need to crack the top 300. The NA East region has a cutoff of top 1,500, while NA West has a tighter limit of the top 600.

Players must be level 30 or higher in-game and have two-factor authentication enabled on their Epic Games accounts to participate.

The tournament will take place this Friday, December 18th. Times for each region are as follow, listed in U.S. Eastern Time:

  • Oceania – 2 a.m.-5 a.m.
  • Asia – 4 a.m.-7 a.m.
  • Middle East – 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Europe – 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
  • Brazil – 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
  • North America East – 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
  • North America West – 9 p.m.-12 a.m.
