Borderlands 3’s Guardian Rank, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Mayhem Mode detailed
During PAX West, Gearbox Software shared details about Borderlands 3’s endgame, which includes the Guardian Rank system, True Vault Hunter Mode, and Mayhem Mode.
First up is Guardian Ranks, which are Borderlands 3’s version of the Badass Rank system. As players earn experience, they will level up their Guardian Rank. Each level will reward a Guardian Token, which can be spent to unlock bonus stats in one of three trees: Enforcer, Survivor, and Hunter. In addition to bonus stats, players can unlock new weapon and Vault Hunter skins by investing enough tokens in each tree.
Another part of the endgame is True Vault Hunter Mode, which is basically New Game+. In this mode, enemies are tougher and better loot is on offer. Mission progress is unique to Normal and True Vault Hunter modes, but stats and equipment are shared.
Finally, we have Mayhem Mode. This new mode is activated by interacting with a mysterious terminal in Sanctuary III and is split into three difficulty levels: Mayhem 1, Mayhem 2, and Mayhem 3. Each of these levels ups the health, shields, and armor of enemies, but also offer increases in cash, Eridium, experience, and loot. That’s not all though, as Mayhem Mode also adds Mayhem Mods to each planet, such as increased enemy weapon damage or reduced damage with normal bullets.
In other news, Gearbox also announced that Borderlands 2 VR will be coming to PC this fall.
Borderlands 3 launches September 13th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
