Battlefield 2042 Update 3.1.2 is the one before the big one
Ahead of its highly anticipated Specialist rework, Battlefield 2042 has received a small patch that adds a few new weapons to Portal and buffs one underused shotgun.
Starting with weapon changes, the MCS-880 shotgun—which has been outshone by the other shotguns in its class since the game launched—received a massive buff. It’s damage per pellet was almost doubled from 8 to 15 at under 20 meters. On the other hand, the Rorsch MK-4 railgun saw a damage nerf against vehicles.
As far as new weapons are concerned, the Battlefield 1942 section of Portal saw its arsenal significantly increased with some iconic weapons. They include the Mk VI Revolver, Gewehr 43, Gewehr 43 ZF4, M1 Garand Sniper, No 4 sniper, and the Sten SMG. While none of 1942 weapons have appeared in 2042‘s standard All-Out Warfare mode as Vault weapons yet, it’s possible that this bevvy of new weapons hints that this will soon change.
The update notes from DICE state that, while this patch is relatively minor, we can “expect a more substantial set of changes coming later this month in Update 3.2.0 alongside the reworked Breakaway map, and the return to Classes.” That update will fit the game’s existing Specialist characters into the more traditional Battlefield classes of Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon. Their class limits what gadgets they can use and gives them weapon specializations without limiting what weapons they can use.
Update 3.2.0 is far from the last one that Battlefield 2042 will receive. Shortly after that patch launches, we expect to learn more about Season 4, which will bring the last new Specialist to the game as well as a new map. But DICE isn’t stopping there, as it’s already confirmed that it’s working on a fifth season for 2042.
