Assassin’s Creed Valhalla trailer hints at Eivor’s mysterious fate
Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, deepening the mystery behind the game’s main character.
Over the top of gorgeous shots of Norwegian fjords, sieges of English castles, and some intense looking Viking parties, we hear the voice of what sounds like an older woman predicting Eivor’s future—and using some pretty cryptic language.
“You’re hiding something,” the voice says. “You walk with shadows… There is a war within you, and glory will not be enough.”
We know Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will see Eivor leave Norway to seek out a new home for his or her people in Saxon England, but what’s less clear is how exactly the story will tie into the grander, series-spanning saga of Assassins and Templars (or the Hidden Ones and Order of Ancients, as they’re still called in this era).
Judging by this trailer, it could be that the old woman knows that Eivor is destined to join the proto-Assassins, or it could be that our viking protagonist already has some unspoken connection to the group—or to another faction—before the game begins. If it’s the second option is true, perhaps there’s an ulterior motive underpinning Eivor’s trip to England.
All our questions will be answered with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches on November 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Google Stadia. The game will also come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but until Sony and Microsoft announce dates for their new consoles we won’t know if Valhalla will be available at launch.
