Assassin’s Creed Valhalla remixes its first trailer to star female Eivor

If you feel a bit of déjà vu watching the newest trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, don’t worry: You’re not going crazy.

Ubisoft’s latest promo for the game is actually a remixed version of Valhalla‘s debut trailer—with two key differences. First, the CG cinematic now shows the female version of the game’s Viking hero, Eivor, rather than the male version used in the original release. Second, the musical accompaniment has changed, swapping “Soul of a Man” by Koda for a remix of the game’s main theme, composed by Sarah Schachner and Jesper Kyd.

That second change is the reason for the trailer’s release, as Ubisoft is hyping up the digital release of a new seven-track EP taken from the game’s larger soundtrack, including our first chance to hear the main theme in full. Called The Raven’s Saga, the EP is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Of course, in addition to promoting the EP release, this trailer also drives home the fact that Ubisoft is positioning both versions of the game’s protagonist as equal this time around. Not only will Valhalla allow you to play through the entire game as either a male or female version of Eivor, but it’ll also let you swap between them at any point in the story. The game’s narrative director, Darby McDevitt, recently hinted on Reddit that the reason for this will be explored in the story, but said that “to go deeper would spoil lots of the mysteries at the heart of the game.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches November 17th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Google Stadia. Versions are also planned for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
