Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that Apex Legends’ third season, titled Meltdown, will get underway on October 1st.
The highlight of this new season is the introduction of Crypto as a playable character. According to the developer, Crypto “deploys specialized surveillance drones to stay in the fight and out of the spotlight.” Respawn also shared a new trailer that sheds a little light on Crypto’s origin story. Also on the way in Season 3 is a new energy weapon called the Charge Rifle and a brand-new Battle Pass that contains more than 100 exclusive items including legendary skins, Apex Packs, and more.
Finally, a new season means a new Ranked League Series for players to compete in. This second iteration of ranked play will come with a few changes, including a 10x increase in all points, adjustments to entry costs, the introduction of assist tracking, and the return of leaving penalties.
Upon logging in to the game on October 1st, all players will have their rank reset to 1.5 tiers lower than where they finished and rewards will be handed out. Gold and higher players will get a gun charm, while Diamond and Apex Predator players will get a custom dive trail.
Apex Legends is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
