Fortnite leaves early access, Save the World will remain a premium experience
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite has officially left early access with the release of the 13.20 update.
In a development update, Epic Games revealed that despite dropping the early access label, Save the World “will remain a premium experience rather than going free-to-play.” As part of this change, all Founders will be upgraded to the next Founder’s Pack level for free and Ultimate Edition owners get the new Metal Team Leader Pack and 8,000 V-Bucks.
“The legacy Early Access label will also be removed from Battle Royale and Creative game modes, a holdover from our initial Save the World launch,” the developer added. “Over the coming months Save the World will no longer be able to support all upcoming Fortnite Battle Royale cosmetic purchases, but your existing library of cosmetics will continue to function in both modes. We’ll let everyone know via the Homebase Status Report when this change will take place.”
Epic also mentioned that “development of new content will slow down” for Save the World now it has left early access. However, it’s not the end of the road, as the team is working on a new feature called Ventures. Ventures are “a new season-long excursion” that take place in a seasonal zone and feature new modifiers for players to tackle.
“Conquering the challenges in Ventures will earn you seasonal experience which impacts the level of difficulty you encounter, weapons you find, and the seasonal rewards that you earn,” Epic added. “Reaching higher seasonal Ventures levels unlocks Supercharger materials that can raise the level of items in your main collection — beyond their current cap.”
Finally, new Save the World packs will be released going forward that replace the original Founder’s Packs. The first of these is the Metal Team Leader Pack that was mentioned above. This pack is available for $20 and grants access to Save the World as well as a new hero, the Papa Bear weapon schematic, Warning Bow Back Bling, and the Metal Team Leader challenges. These challenges reward 1,000 V-Bucks, 500 X-Ray Tickets, and a Legendary Troll Stash Llama.
